Vienna: Part One

We decided to enjoy a festive break in Vienna and weren't disappointed with the Christmas Spirit in this beautiful city.

Within an hour of arrival we found ourselves in the middle of one of the largest Christmas markets in Karlsplatz, which is the home of the impressive Karlskirche (St Charles Church).

Inside was even more beautiful and we enjoyed the most incredible performance of Vivaldi' Four Seaons.

The next morning we headed to the Belvedere, which is a stunning baroque palace and gardens was built by Prince Eugene in 1714. Today it is still a beautiful palace but the highlight for me was the Klimt exhibition - the most famous piece was The Kiss.

Vienna is a very easy city to walk around and every building was beautiful.

Lichfield National Park, Darwin, Northern Territory

Lichfield Park is just over an hour's drive from Darwin and is a complete escape from the city. The park is well known for its waterfalls and termite mounds.

The first set of magnetic termite mounds were like tombstones and are perfectly aligned with the sun to regulate the temperature inside the mound.

The cathedral termites are responsible for the construction of the largest termite mounds I've ever seen.

There were also some Australian Hornets close by, a bit too close for comfort...

Next I saw some of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Northern Territory, with perfect timing as it is the end of the wet season.

First were the Florence Falls.

The the Tomer Falls, which are located in a beautiful gorge.

Finally the Wangi Falls.

Where I saw some giant spiders....

These falls are in a beautiful tropical forest.
